Celebs in Politics ???

With elections coming up just a few days away, it seems that every other minute another celebrity is posting a statement or a video of their declaration on who they are voting for...and let's be honest, most of the popular and very vocal celebrities are supporting Kamala Harris. As Rachel from friends would say "mmmm Interesting...".
Well it is interesting, isn't it?
Celebrities endorsing political candidates is nothing new, it's been that way always, except these days with social media, it's in your face 24/7! But is it effectively pushing the agenda and getting more of the undecided votes for Kamala? or is it actually doing the opposite? Let's start with the list of celebs and try to find the common denominator. If you first look at the number of celebs pushing for Kamala vs the number of celebs pushing for Trump, there is almost no comparison. It is obvious that almost all of Hollywood and all music industry peeps are democrats...nothing new here. If you look at the celebs supporting Trump (well the ones who are brave enough to declare it) they are few in numbers and usually you have to ask yourself when you see their name "who is that?". Unless it's Dennis Quaid!
So yes, we saw George Clooney and Julia Roberts on stage declaring their support for Joe Biden and that was a minute before he got disoriented and froze on stage! Remember that? the appearance right before the presidential debate that raised the concern among all of us thinking "wait, but is he OK? he doesn't seem ok". And yes, Obama so elegantly walked him off stage, as we all felt nauseous. Then came the presidential debate, remember that??? with Joe mumbling...that was what they call "The Main Event" and yes...that ended with a total TKO! As the the panic began within the democrats, it didn't take long before Joe was pushed aside and our VP became the new star overnight.
But back to celebrities and their influence on the upcoming election, or the backlash against it, ...Now that we have clarified who most of them are supporting, does their opinion matter? is it influencing people's minds and decisions? what does the average voter think about this? It's hard to stay unaffected when you see Taylor Swift, Finneas & Billie Eillish, Charli XCX, Usher and Lizzo, all out there declaring their choice of vote. You can obviously add Jay-Z and Beyonce to this list, although they both might be a bit preoccupied these days with the whole P. Diddy situation, and yet Beyonce still made time to highlight an appearance, as well as the extremely emotional jlo. Let's just move on shall we? I mean Bruce Springsteen "the boss"? Ariana, Dua, Bon Jovi, John Legend...the list goes on and on and on . Trump has ...Elon Musk, and did I mention already Dennis Quaid?
I recently saw Ellen Degeneres post a few statements which were obviously expressing her negative opinion on Trump, she wrote "You can't tell someone you love them and then vote for someone who will hurt them" - and this was actually a retweet post from Jamie Lee Curtis. I was a bit surprised to see that, but more shocked to see the comments that were pilling up under that post! If I expected most of the comments to be supportive of Ellen's post, after all - she was and still is one of the most popular and loved celebrities, boy was I wrong!!! Almost all the comments expressed disagreements with her statement, but more importantly, everyone expressed that celebrities should shut up about who they are voting for.
Looking into this, I found that with every celebrity expressing and posting their choice of candidate, the more posts and comments I saw of people hating celebrities announcing their choice, telling people who to vote for, or even hinting anything on the topic. Let's face it...celebrities, as much as we love them, their music, their movies, their clothes their perfumes...whatever they showcase, it's nice. We can't deny it influences us in many ways. But when it comes to politics? That's where people wake up. The reason is that we all know celebrities don't live like most people do. Their status and financial freedom allows them to live in a way that most us "common people" do not. They don't worry about house bills, child care, gas prices, grocery shopping, etc...They can all afford chauffeurs to drive them around in expensive "pimp my ride" cars, they have chefs to cook for them, live in nannies to watch their kids, housekeepers to clean up and do their laundry, personal shoppers and assistants to manage their busy schedules. And that is all fine and great. Hey, if you are successful and have financial freedom - why the hell not??? BUT - and this is a huge BUT, you cannot expect people who don't enjoy that lifestyle to listen to your opinion!!! If you have no financial care in the world, you should not be advising people who do. That is how most people feel these days and that is completely understandable. So to sum it up, here's a louder message to all you celebs, in the words of Ricky Gervais
"come up here, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God and fuck off".
No one wants to hear your opinion!
